Review: I use the saw to build stairs [8" or 10"blade]. Other manufactures offer similar saws that are more attractive, but just don't cut it in the most important area, the actual cut. To achieve a full 12" cross cutting capacity others shorten the geometry of the saw. With saw in the full-back position 80% of the blade is still in front of the fence. This is fine on large peices of wood but on small trim the tendency of the back of the blade to lift the material is extreamly dangerous. Hatachi compound slide saws are designed so only 60% of the blade is front of the fence so that during cutting small peices are safely forced down and back having less of a tendency to tear the wood out of your hands.
Pluses: Hitachi has designed the tool with 12" cutting capacity without setting the blade as far forward ... Minuses: miter table hard to read
