Review: I researched the market for the highest value bike I could find in a sport/sport touring bike and finally chose the Kawasaki Ninja 500. It had to be light, fast, and cheap, and the Kawasaki Ninja 500 is just that. Most readily obtained productions bike are in fact better bikes, but very few can match the Ninja 500's value. It is literally a compilation of all the minimum attributes science dictates to produce a very capable modern sport bike. With a realistic 47 hp to the rear wheel it can be beaten by nearly anyother production sport bike, but then they also out perform it in initial cost, insurance, repair cost, weight, theif, operational cost, etc. If you ride all day at top end this isn't the bike for you. If you like getting your knee down for nearly no money, then you need to seriously consider the Ninja 500 (aka EX 500). The engine is bullet proof, the frame is plenty stiff, used parts are a dime a dozen. When canyon carving, it's the rider, not hp and this bike is at it's best in the twisties. If you want a cheap, compliant ride, look at the Kawasaki Ninja/EX 500. Whether it's your first bike or your first racer, it can do more than you for a lot less money than nearly anything else. My advice is put the money into a very good set of leathers, boots, gloves, helmet, riding schools, and a '94+ Ninja 500. By the time you've reached the limits of this bike, you'll at least be on your second set of leathers. Don't ask how I know (again, isn't the bike, it's the rider).
Pluses: Value, the bike is light, fast, and cheap. Minuses: Small selection of good tires and other aftermarket products.
Suggestions: Stiffer front fork springs are needed. Suggestions: A slightly wider swingarm (only needed to allow a better choice of radials.
